After years away, Captain Marat returns home carrying a great burden deep in his soul. The whole village condemns him since he was the sole survivor of a deadly storm that sank his ship and took the lives of all its passengers, including Marat’s wife. Although the sea has now mysteriously dried up, the sadness and bitterness of Captain Marat’s ship remains. Marat is obsessed by the idea of making the sea return and thus, in a way, bringing back the villagers’ loved ones lost at sea. He desperately tries to find a way to drag his wrecked ship across the dry wasteland in search of the sea. Almost everyone believes that Marat is crazy, except for his close friend Balthazar and Tamara, the younger sister of Marat’s deceased wife. Tamara is deeply in love with Marat, but he rejects her because his mission is a solitary one.
Marat’s quest for redemption is a testament to man’s ability to resist surrendering to the tragedy of life. With a stroke of magic, his bittersweet dream may come true.
